Earlier this year, Smiths' Flexible Technologies Division announced a new distribution strategy. This included consolidation of our global manufacturing capacity, resulting in Flexible Ducting (in Milngavie, Scotland) closing in summer 2009.
As part of this strategy, Flexible Ducting transferred manufacturing responsibility for several product lines to Flexible Technologies, our sister company, located in the United States. We plan to continue to offer as many as possible of our existing products, or alternatives of the same high quality, within the European marketplace.
On the continental mainland, Flexschlauch Produktions GmbH in Luebeck, Germany is now responsible for distribution of the Division's hose & ducting products. Founded over 40 years ago, Flexschlauch is one of Europe's leading suppliers of technical hose and ducting, with a more comprehensive range of types and diameters available ex-stock than could previously be offered by FD. The Luebeck warehouse, the capacity of which has been further expanded, is responsible for sales to most of our existing continental customers.
The closure of the Flexible Ducting manufacturing facility in Milngavie, Glasgow, is complete, with business transferred to our new distribution partners in the UK and on the continent. Due to the changes in manufacturing locations, there may be some minor cosmetic differences to certain products, but this will not affect product quality or performance.
